Unit 12: Creating a TV Channel

Diary of Work

19/11/14 First Meeting

Today, we had our first official meeting with our whole group. One of the first things we wanted to establish are job roles. We decided as a group to give each other job role so that we can reach our best capacity. I was given the job role as graphic designer, which I was very happy with as I was already working on logos.

As the graphic designer I have to make clear what we stand for as a company. I am also in charge of the branding of the company, it all fall under my responsible. Thinking about the role I was given it’s something that is very for a company. I have to create something that establish our theme; give information, and also be creative in doing it.

Everybody else in my group was given a role to work on. We also discuss and brainstormed ideas and concepts for our TV company. Before, doing actual work we need to know what are we doing. We started researching and finding contacts to set up meetings we our demographic. The whole point of this project is to have contact our demographic and let them make the choices. Our job is to listen to them and create something they like. Without having set up meeting with our demographic it would be point else making something for a certain audience consulted them.

As a group we decided to making TV channel of hearing impair people. We are so lucky that in our college their are giving free sign language lessons for free. We took this opportunity to learn sign language and be able to get in the mind set of a hearing person.

26/11/14 Sign Language Class

We was given the chance to attend my first sign language class for free. I didn’t know what to expect but I went just to learn and get all of a sense of how a hearing impaired person would speak. Honestly, I had a great time and it was a great experience and I did learn some and began to practice it at home. I was able to learn the basic like how to say my name, the days of the week, the numbers, and other basic stuff. This class inspired to continue learning how to sign. I don’t only learn how to sign a but but I was able to understand the rules about a hearing impair person/ conversations. Another thing I gained in this class was to clear things I thought was correct to do when speaking to a hearing impaired person which were completely wrong and offensives. It taught me certain dos and don’t.

03/12/14 Logo Productions

These are the logos and posters I designed using Photoshop. I had to prepare everything for our meeting with our demographics. I wanted to see if they liked it and what things I need to improve and adjust to their liking.

 Idea for Promotional Video

Part of our project we have to create a promo video for our new channel. I began to start researching other adverts to get an idea. While researching I found these adverts and I personally love these ads. I wanted to do promo where there’s a positive message about disable people. After speaking to with a friend of mine who has a cousin who is hearing impaired one of the issues that stood out to me was the fact that they feel rejected. All they desire is to feel part of the group. Not being to switch on the TV and watch the news because they won’t understand because there is a lot of information that they find it easier to read it online.  We had to create something that empowers disable and also carters on their needs. I thought the best mixture is of the channel 4 Paralympics adverts with something more informative.

Production began on Promo Video 5/12/2014

My group began to started coming with ideas for our promo video. We knew that having a promo video was going to be vital for a new TV channel. While doing my research I saw that the best way for promote a new TV channel or show was through an advert or commercial. Having known this information we started planning the content. We decided to make the promo video a silent video that why everything will be able to feel what a hearing impaired would feel. Our plan was to recreate what a hearing impaired person daily routine, not being able to hear the sound a person hear normally, the alarm going off; the kettle bolding; pot and pans making noise; street noise; kids running around the park etc. In one of the scenes we wanted to have a television screen in the background and having our channel program going on. We thought it would send a good message within the promo video. After the young person does what he normally does during the daily he would sit down and turn on the television and watch our channel, Ditto.

Production began on the friday and one of the member edited throughout the night. The next day he showed us but we all agreed that the quality wasn’t at it’s best. The message we wanted to come across wasn’t really clear, it needed to be clear. We showed it to another class member that didn’t know what we were doing and he confirmed what we were feeling about the message not being clear enough. As a group we decided to film again even though our deadline was in a week. We didn’t want to present a promo video that wasn’t to our high standard, we had to make a promo video that was good enough for this demographic.

10/12/2014

The first Wednesday we came back we started the day filming. We made sure that every shot and scene was perfect, we decided to spend more time framing each shot, we couldn’t afford to miss this up as we didn’t have time to do it again, it had to be perfect.
