Mise-en-Scène

mise-en-scene

Mise-en-Scene Oxford definition “The arrangement of everything that appears in the framing – actors, lighting, décor, props, costume – is called mise-en-scène, a French term that means “placing on stage.” The frame and camerawork are also considered part of the mise-en-scène of a movie.”

Lighting

The way a film or scene is light can tell the audience a lot. Certain types of lighting and colour give off certain types of feeling. A great example is the film “Terminator 2 Judgment Day” directed by, James Cameron. The whole film itself is very blue and this tells the audience that this is going to be very scary, gloomy and cold film.

sarahinsanelookIn this scene Sarah is about to escape from the mental hospital and again the Director of Photography, Adam Greenberg has made the decision to light this scene and give off a blue vibe. I love the way this particular scene is lit because Greenberg specifically illuminates Sarah’s character. It also sets the environment that she’s living in a nightmare.

Three-point-Lighting

This technique of lighting is properly the most used in the industry.
